Life is a journey and indeed was confirmed as poet, football lover and colleague O-n-i-m-s-i made his way to the southern watersides of Uyo for a weekend in what turned out to be the best interactive match viewing I've experienced as an analyst.
Arsene's Mood Swing
'Football is not played on paper' a fact Arsene Wenger failed to comprehend. Prior to this game Arteta had from six yards converted 10 spotkicks from 11 attempts. However given the rampaging mood Oliver Giroud was in, circumstances should have prevailed as the Arsenal's man of the match couldn't have been more surprised when Arteta was bestowed with the daunting responsibility to grab the gunners a late winner in injury time. Miss he did and didn't Martin Jol's Fulham breathe a sigh of relieve!! Leaving Wenger in one of his famous touchline mood swings. 3-3 it ended at the Emirates as the gunners failed to keep up with the pace at the premier league summit.
Born Winners!
Aston Villa fell victim to yet another Manchester comeback. As of now Manchester United seem incapable of getting results unless they find themselves behind. Andres Wiemann gave Villa a false sense of security when his double strikes in both halfs put Villa in a dangerous situation. One writer imagined Paul Lambert saying "now we're in trouble" *lol*.
The turning point came at halftime with the introduction of the Guadalajara born hitman Chicharito, who single handedly turned the game on its head as his already proven combination of pace, instinctiveness and exceptional movement ensured him scoring what at the time seemed to be a hat-trick, as the referee kevin Friend duly handed the mexican the match ball. The rest is history as the game finished 3-2 in favour of the visitors, vanishing Villa's hopes of a home win over Manchester united in over a decade.
Justice forcefully Served!
Many wouldn't have agreed with the lenient 4 match ban given to John Terry after being found guilty for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand. Luiz Suarez who just doesn't know how to stay out of the media spotlite was more aggrieved as he himself faced an 8 match ban for similar charges. He himself couldn't have been impressed with the inequality shown by the FA. Faith saw to it that the duo (John Terry & Suarez ) collided in the course of the sunday encounter, as the later crocked the former's knee in a battle which Suarez came out victorious. At least John Terry can continue serving his match ban for maybe another four games on the sidelines who knows he may match Suarez's 8. *didnt mean that*
Both grabbed the goals for their teams as the match ended in a stalemate with Juan Mata having the best chance to seal the game for chelsea. Again leaving question marks over Chelsea's title credentials as they found it difficult to dispose of a mid tabled Liverpool side. A debate?
Karma?!!
Toon's old boys Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll left Newcastle in shambles on Sunday. Both players were out-rightly sold by the Toons in their championship winning season. The duo combining to give big Sam Allardyce a second win over his former employers since being sacked by Mike Ashley. Like often said "Revenge is a dish best served cold". 1-0 it ended as West Ham come out conquerors at St James' Park.
Super Sub?
With Six premier league goals, five of which have come from the bench, and three of those have been winners. Edin Dzeko has been quick to refute super-sub tag. A clever writer said maybe his best way to get rid of the tag is not to score when he comes on as a sub.
Manchester City have all but taken a leaf from the famous comeback books of their great neighbours (Manchester United). Who said these two can't coexist mutually. *lol*
City hosted Tottenham Hotspurs at the Etihad looking to keep up with their "quiet neighbours" United. Their task couldn't have been more daunting when Steven Caulker scored, the young centre back gave Spurs an early lead. City rained series of efforts on Brad friedel's goal from then on. Sergio Aguero equalised for City in what was a sublime finished grafted through class and composure. Dzeko came on to grab another late win for Manchester City as Mancini's men toppled Chelsea to take second place in the Epl log.
Here are other results from week 11 of the English premier league.
Everton 2-1 Sunderland
Reading 0-0 Norwich City
Southampton 1-1 Swansea City
Stoke 1-0 Queens Park Rangers
Wigan Athletic 1-2 West Bromwich Albion.
