There are so many social media networks these days and everyone is on at least one! But the thing about social media is, with all its negatives, there are certain things it’s great for! Now if only we could take some of those social media positive and adapt to real life. Right? Right? I wish!!!
10. ‘Like’
What we need is a real life
‘Like’ button. It explains it all- I like what you said, I like the meal you served, I like the jeans you wear…

9. ‘Friend’
Human dynamics are complex. You meet someone, wonder if they like you, and navigate the world. It would be so simple if we met people and sent friend requests. If they want us in their lives, they accept. If not, they can deny the request, or keep us pending. Right?
8. Unfriend
It could all be so simple… Instead of wondering how someone feels, you know. Why? They defriended you. Plus, you can also get rid of hangers-on et al by unfriending…
7. Circles
On Google +, you add people to your circles. Kind of like a facebook friend and a twitter follow. But there are different kinds of circles. From ‘friends’ to ‘family’ to ‘acquaintances’, to circles you create yourself. We need real life circles so people quickly know where they stand. Hey you, colleague circle. And you, cutie alert circle. Ogbeni, stalker circle. See?
6. Direct Messages
Also known as the ‘p setting’ app, this is where instead of letting the whole world see your business, you send a tweet to just one person and it’s private. We need direct messages in real life for times when we are hanging out with a group but need to tell one person in that group something real quick. And let’s not forget the p setting potential please.
5. Follow
Think someone’s witty? Follow them. Want updates from your favourite radio show (hopefully mine)? Follow them (meeeee). Want to set the afore mentioned ‘p’? Follow!!! A real life ‘follow’ would rock.
4. Status Updates
Life would be easier if we could incorporate status updates into our every day life. Imagine sitting with a group of friends and you guys speaking up whenever you feel like it. ‘Jaiye is hungry’. ‘I think buying bulletproof cars when lecturers haven’t been paid is disturbing’. ‘This food is delish’. ‘What’s she wearing?’. ‘Love my dress’. ‘Selfie’ Much more fun than what we usually have, don’t you think?
3. Mute
Of course with follows and status updates must come the ‘mute’ button. The ‘mute’ button would work just like a remote control. The person would be speaking to you and you would just click on’mute’ and not hear anything they are saying. Imagine how many break ups can be delayed! Or meetings you can drift in and out of. And that loving friend that never shuts up at the movies? MUTE!
2. Filter
I personally would be grateful for a filter button as we have on instagram. Instead of hours spent getting made up, I would just click on ‘sunshine’ or ‘amaro’ on my dress and voila! I’d look different. You could also blur your problem areas, or frame yourself… The possibilities are endless…
1. Poke
Here, I give a shout out to the one feature we never want in real life, and we wish could be taken off Facebook as well. It’s 2013, noone pokes any longer
