A group which calls itself the Eye of Niger Delta (END), has exposed what it calls the dirty and profligate lifestyle of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a press statement made available to The Paradigm, the group’s National Coordinatior, Mr. Tari Victor-Ben said that the Akwa Ibom’s Governor Godswill Akpabio, connived with the authorities to install Dan Abia as NDDC’s Managing Director in order for him to have access to the commission’s budget for his governorship campaign funds.
The group in a terse statement titled Time up for Sir. Bassey Dan Abia as Managing Director of NDDC, expressed anger over Dan Abia’s “insincerity of purpose’.
It said, “since inception Sir Dan Abia has not demonstrated sincerity of purpose in any way, rather he has further impoverished the already heavily deprived people of Niger Delta, this so because on assumption of office Sir. Dan Abia with out delay approved the sum of N1.2 Billion, just for the renovation of four (4) offices.
The group also accused Dan Abia of purchasing Armoured vehicles for four of its directors, building mansions and hotels with the commission’s money, picture of which it attached to the press release.

(Time up for Sir. Bassey Dan Abia as Managing Director of NDDC)
We must end corruption in our region before corruption end us. Hence we have considered it necessary to remind Mr. President and the general Public, that about a month ago we raised alarm over the illicit plot of Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State and Sir. Bassey Dan Abia, Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Where we stated that Akpabio has concluded plans to hand over to Sir. Dan Abia as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State, yet he presented Sir. Dan Abia for the Job of the Managing Director of NDDC, the main plot how ever is that Sir. Dan Abia will resign as the Managing Director after accessing the 2014 Budget of the Commission to enable them divert the budget for his Governorship Election, interestingly the recent moves by the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by zoning the Governor to Sir Dan Abia’s Senatorial District has vindicated our position.
It must be stated that since inception Sir Dan Abia has not demonstrated sincerity of purpose in any way, rather he has further impoverished the already heavily deprived people of Niger Delta, this so because on assumption of office Sir. Dan Abia with out delay approved the sum of N1.2 Billion, just for the renovation of four (4) offices ; that of the Managing Director (MD), the Chairman of the Board, the Executive Director Finance and Admin (EDFA) and that of the Executive Director Project (EDP). Mean while there are pending projects that will add value to the region and improving the living of the people of Niger Delta, that requires only half of such sum to be completed, but no! it has been left unattended just for the selfish dictates of Sir, Dan Abia. As if the above criminality was not enough, just a week after the approval of the office renovation was done, Sir Dan Abia in a rush as if it was a National Emergency approved the sum of N983 million for the purchase of cars for the above mention principal officers of the Commission, the cars which are all ARMORED CARS include Lexus Land Cruisers and G-Wagon SUV’s. The saddest part of the lack of sincerity of purpose of the NDDC Managing Director is that since his appointment he has not been in his lavishly furnished office for more that five (5) times cumulatively, leaving contractors and staff of the commission stranded.
Just few days ago, precisely on the 23 of April, Sir Dan Abia,MD of NDDC left his office in a dramatic rush with his usual unprecedented and unwarranted Legion of convoy, only to go on board a private jet at the Port Harcourt Air Force Base! Down to Lagos where he boarded another steaming Private Jet which conveyed him and his aides to South Africa to attend a wedding of his sisters child, it is already on record that South Africans had never witnessed such a lavished wedding, it will also interest Mr.President to know that N 683 million was budgeted just for that wedding (this is no secret at the NDDC), two days after the wedding he left South Africa for Dubai on same private jet. Eye of Niger Delta has monitored at least three (3) of the past MD’s of the NDDC, none of them has ventured in to this level of waste, this tell us what the region stands to put up with if the current MD is allowed in office even for another One (1) month, this is not to mention the cars and house he bought for this relative that got married in South Africa.
It is said that when the head is bad, the body can not be good! This lack of sincerity of purpose which can been seen from a distance in the attitude of the Managing Director, Sir. Dan Abia has played out in the lives of other board members, worthy of note is the multi-Billion mansion that is currently being built by the Executive Director Project, at New Heaven, Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2 Port Harcourt. Needless to state the value of the property as those who are conversant with Rivers State can rightly guess the level of embezzlement that would have necessitated such a massive project. It would also interest Mr. President to know that we have every single document to back the details that has been exposed here! Including the flight manifest of the South Africa Trip as well as over loaded (Including Pictorial) details of the mansion of the executive Director Project, which is being executed by an Abuja based construction company by the name BULWARK CONSTRUCTION LIMITED, at No. 1. Gapes Street, Wuse Zone 2. Abuja. More details will be revealed when we shall give a copy of our petition to the PRESS, the Petition was addressed to Mr. President and copied Sen. James Manager, Chairman Senate Committee on NDDC. So far we have mobilized about 5000 persons, and have printed more than enough T-Shirts, we call on other interested civil society groups and individuals to join our peaceful demonstration on the terms contained in our bulk text massages.
We take full responsibility for the welfare of all those who will join our peaceful demonstration, this is a clarion call, please come one come all! Niger Delta Development Commission is not and Can never be the coco farm or Private Estate of anybody not even Sir. Dan Abia. It is time to show him the way out.
