With all the World Cup action coming to an end, some stories have slipped under the radar.
For instance, what effect will Antonio Conte’s Juventus exit have on the Serie A race next season?
For me, a big effect. Massimiliano Allegri has replaced Conte, but he has been key to the last three titles Juventus have won and the players will be affected by his exit. He gave the club a style of play and a winning mentality that the players transmitted on the pitch.
Across the world, coaches have moved on or changed places. At international level we are still waiting to see what Alejandro Sabella does with Argentina.
I hope he does stay because I believe in long-term projects. Sabella has shown he is capable of coaching Argentina and he formed a great base which could carry on until the next World Cup. Let’s hope he can carry on his work, which has been very good.
Naturally, everyone asks is Diego Simeone a good option to be Argentina’s next coach?
Sooner or later, ‘el Cholo’ will be coach of Argentina. I don’t think that moment is now and as I said previously, it would be good if Sabella stayed on.
Simeone is doing well where he is, but I have no doubt he will be Argentina coach some time in future.
Now we have reached a final, can Argentina can win the next World Cup and what needs to change for that to happen?
Argentina will always have a good chance because they are a force and they have great players. Almost all of the players that were in Brazil will be there, they’ll have more experience and that leads you to think that they can fulfill the dream that we all have: to become world champions.
I think the base is there. If we continue on the same track that led us to the final this time, we’ll have a good chance of winning the title in Russia 2018.
