At last, J’odie, born Joy Odiete Eseoghene, who found fame after participating in that 2007 West African Idols reality show has dropped her maiden album, joining the likes of Omawumi and Timi Dakolo who were her contemporaries.
J’ Odie is dropping the album few years after she had her “Kuchi Kuchi” single. She explained that the delay was as a result of her desire to give her fans a quality music.

“ I am not in a hurry to drop my album. It takes me time to build the album, and it’s not a cut and nail work. It has quality and everything everybody would want in listen to. A party goer will love my album. “ said in a chat with Showtime.
The 10 track-LP, which explores genres ranging from New Age to Folk to Techno proving the African Woman knows no bounds.
The songbird loses her mind on her songs, saying that they are songs that are perceived to be my kind of songs. And when I worked on those tracks I immediately realised it was time for me to release my debut album.”
J’Odie, who is recently signed with DUN Entertainment said, she’s planning to shoot the video.This is the first time, J’ Odie will signed under any record label.
According to her, her ability to diversify has given her music a new boost, as apart from doing soul RnB, and pop, she has blended it African lyrics. “ If you listen to my song, you will hear, RnB, pop and African lyrics” she narrated.
J’ Odie’s fans and critics alike should look out for the love ballad “Biko”, a power ballad with actual power and emotion. The songbird explores different tones of her voice, layering them beautifully to build up the emotional intensity achievable due to the vulnerability of voice with spine-tingling ad-libs.
J’odie gets her ‘Enya’ on for “Akpona Igbunu” sung mostly in her native dialect ‘Urhobo’, the vocal wonder shows her expansive range, pitch-perfect scaling, vocal layering and transposition fuelled with emotion so effortlessly she makes singing looks like child’s play. You might not understand what she is saying but your ears will beg for more.
The hit track, “African Woman” is a testimony that African music is classic and timeless, sadly she might not enjoy the success of mainstream albums nonetheless this album will rival releases in 10 years time.
